Experts from the Blood Pressure UK organization have named an unexpected sign of cardiovascular disease. Reported by the Daily Exress.
According to them, ankle swelling may indicate a risk of high blood pressure. Experts explained that high blood pressure causes unnecessary stress on the blood vessels and organs of a person, which can lead to hypertrophy of the heart muscle and reduced blood circulation. They emphasized that this is what allows fluid to accumulate in the ankles and lead to swelling.
Earlier, an international team of scientists determined that the difference in blood pressure measured in the right and left arms may indicate a high risk of stroke, heart attack and imminent death. A significant difference between the systolic (upper) blood pressure readings in the two arms may indicate narrowing or stiffness of the arteries, which can affect blood flow.
