Uncontrolled antibiotics can lead to bowel cancer
Swedish scientists believe that taking antibiotics can lead to bowel cancer. Experts from the University of Umeå suggested that those who have been taking such drugs for more than six months are at greatest risk. This is stated in an article published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. Experts analyzed 40 thousand cases of bowel cancer and concluded that tumors can occur due to the active use of drugs that actively fight diseases caused by bacteria. But if taken incorrectly, there is a negative impact on human health.
Scientists noted that taking antibiotics increases the risk of colon cancer 5-10 years after treatment with these drugs. The reason is that these drugs cause changes in the microbial community in the GI tract.
According to experts from the Sechenov University, in the last year alone, the consumption of antibiotics in Russia has grown by 30%. This is primarily due to the spread of the coronavirus, although viral diseases are not treated in this way, doctors emphasize.
They are sure that such treatment not only does not help to recover, but causes tremendous harm to the body. The least that uncontrolled use of antibiotics can result in is diarrhea. In the worst case, the body's natural ability to resist harmful microorganisms will decrease. The result is disastrous – the development of inflammatory processes, which may well lead to the formation of cancer.
Earlier, British scientists conducted a study and found that consumption of red meat increases the risk of bowel cancer. The researchers conducted an experiment involving 500,000 men and women aged 40 to 69 years. The subjects described their diet and lifestyle to the scientists. During this period, more than 2,600 cases of colorectal cancer were identified in the study participants.
And scientists at the University of Washington in St. Louis have concluded that excessive consumption of sugary drinks may increase the risk of bowel cancer in people under 50. In the course of the study, specialists studied the records of more than 95 thousand women. It turned out that those who drank more than 0.5 liters of sugary drinks a day were diagnosed with cancer twice as often.
