UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres saw the connection between anti-vaccinators and anti-Semites. At a ceremony dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Holocaust, he called opponents of vaccination, wearing a yellow six-pointed star during demonstrations, supporters of conspiracy theories in an “anti-Semitic cliche.” His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
He drew attention to the frequent cases of hatred of Jews. According to him, anti-Semitism — the oldest form of hatred and prejudice – is reviving again. The UN Secretary General stressed that almost every day there are new reports of insults and attacks on Jews, desecration of cemeteries and synagogues.
“We see many other modern manifestations of centuries-old hatred. We feel this in the astonishing regularity with which conspiracy theories turn into vile anti-Semitic cliches. We see this in the way protesters against life-saving vaccines demonstrate with a yellow star on,” Guterres said.
Earlier it became known that European countries were the leaders in the number of anti-Semitic incidents in 2021. According to the results of the study, it turned out that almost 50 percent of anti—Semitic incidents were registered in Europe, and about 30 percent more in the United States. These are the results of a report prepared by the World Zionist Organization and the Jewish Agency for Israel “Dry Up” on the eve of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day celebrated on January 27.
