UN Secretary General predicted global catastrophe due to climate warming
UN Secretary General António Guterres said that the world is facing disaster due to climate warming. He called on countries to reduce harmful emissions, according to the UN News website.
During a speech in New York, Guterres noted that a warming of 2.7 degrees instead of 1.5 degrees would bring dire consequences. He referred to the words of scientists that any rise above 1.5 degrees would be a disaster. Guterres is urging countries to reduce emissions by 45% by 2030 to limit the rise in temperature and achieve carbon neutrality by mid-century.
“Saving this and future generations is a shared responsibility,” the UN head said.
The Secretary General called on the governments of the countries to take immediate decisive action to prevent a climate catastrophe.
We will remind, earlier scientists warned that due to climate change the number of “extreme summer droughts” in Europe could double by 2099. And the Russian zoologist believes that because of this, many species of marine animals may disappear.
