Antonio Guterres
Humanity has failed the coronavirus pandemic test. This was stated by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, reports TASS.
The secretary general cited statistics on infections and deaths from the coronavirus – almost a million dead and 30 million infected. According to Gutterisch, the world was unable to prevent this due to humanity's refusal to cooperate.
“The pandemic is clearly a test for international cooperation that we have failed. (…) But it [the coronavirus] has also become a warning that should prompt us to take action, ”Gutterisch said, adding that the world must unite within global institutions to avoid chaos.
Guterres previously said that the coronavirus outbreak is spiraling out of control. According to him, at the moment the pandemic is “the number one threat” to global security. The secretary general stressed that although many pin their hopes on a vaccine, there is still no panacea for a pandemic.
