The UN has evaluated new data on the effectiveness of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V, which was published by the medical journal The Lancet. This was stated at a briefing by the organization's deputy secretary general Stefan Dujarrick, his words are reported by the Izvestia newspaper.
“This news is very welcome – another vaccine. And we should salute scientists all over the world who did an amazing job last year, ”the diplomat emphasized. He also added that the UN will now await the official approval of the drug from WHO to consider using the vaccine.
Earlier, WHO welcomed the data on the recognition of “Sputnik V” effective. According to the representative of the organization in Russia Melita Vujnovich, new data speaks about the quality of the drug.
On February 2, the medical journal The Lancet published data that the results of the third phase of clinical trials of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine demonstrated 91.6% effectiveness against coronavirus. 19,866 people took part in testing the vaccine.
Sputnik V became the world's first registered vaccine based on the human adenovirus. Currently, the development of Russian scientists is among the ten best vaccine candidates in the list of the World Health Organization (WHO).
