Amin Awad has become UN crisis coordinator for Ukraine, UN Secretary General António Guterres said, TASS reports.
As the Secretary General clarified, “humanitarian needs” are growing every hour in Ukraine. “At least 100,000 Ukrainians were forced to leave their homes,” he stressed. Guterres specified that Awad would coordinate the activities of the international organization, “including the humanitarian response, on both sides of the line of contact.”
Prior to this, Awad at various times held a number of positions in the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. He dealt with the issue of refugees in the Middle East and North Africa.
On Thursday, February 24, during an address to the Russians, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special operation in the Donbass. This happened after Donbass complained about the genocide in the region and asked for Moscow's support.
