They want to treat refugees from Ukraine and other countries on equal terms.
Ukrainians risk losing residence permit in Norway. This will happen if they go home.
This is stated in a statement by the Norwegian government.
Details
As it became known, the Ministry of Justice and Public Security today issued instructions to the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) allowing temporary collective protection to be lifted if Ukrainians travel to Ukraine.
“This follows a general instruction from the Ministry of Justice and Public Security UDI, according to which foreign nationals who have been granted protection in Norway may lose their residence permit if they return to the country from which they left,” โ noted in the message.
Until this time, there was an exception to this instruction for Ukrainians with temporary collective protection. For now it is being cancelled, so Ukrainians will no longer be able to travel home without consequences.
“If Ukrainians who have received temporary collective protection travel back and forth between Norway and Ukraine, this may indicate that they no longer need protection in Norway. Now I want to treat Ukrainians and others nationalities on equal terms in terms of the consequences of such trips,โ said Minister of Justice and Public Security Emily Enger Mehl.
Trips made before the restriction came into force will not lead to the cancellation of your residence permit. However, in special cases, visiting the country of origin will still be permitted.
Previously it became known how many Ukrainians went abroad because of the war.
