The Swiss authorities will resettle the fugitives from the war in the country in accordance with the principle of proportionality.
Switzerland has changed the system of housing refugees from Ukraine. Now they will not be able to choose their place of residence on their own, but will be forced to follow the instructions of the authorities.
This is reported by swissinfo with reference to the State Secretariat for Migration.
Previously, Ukrainian refugees had the opportunity to settle wherever they wish. At the same time, they chose the most popular and developed regions.
Difficulties with the distribution of a large number of refugees are experienced primarily by Zurich, Basel and Bern, as well as the canton of Tychino.
Refugees and the Swiss families who host them will no longer be able to independently decide on the resettlement of persons seeking protection from war. Registered Ukrainian refugees will be resettled in the country, taking into account the capabilities of the regions (cantons) on the basis of the principle of proportionality.
At the same time, Ukrainian families and refugee groups will be able to stay together. If any of the refugees wants to change the canton, then the cantonal authorities must give their consent.
About 37,000 refugees from Ukraine have been registered in Switzerland since the beginning of the war. About half of them were placed in private households with the support of non-governmental organizations and individuals.
All Ukrainian refugees, with the exception of a few people, have already acquired a special migration status (category S residence permit), which allows them to seek work and sign up for language courses.
Recall that the Swiss government has adopted additional sanctions against Moscow, corresponding to the fourth package of EU restrictions. However, the Federal Council decided not to stop broadcasting Russian propagandists Sputnik and Russia Today.
