The leadership of the UN mission instructed the Ukrainian military to inflict a fire defeat.
Ukrainian peacekeepers of the 18th helicopter detachment of the UN mission destroyed a militant military base in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
This was announced by the commander of the media relations unit Alexander Savchenko on his Facebook page, publishing relevant photos and videos.
In his message, he clarified that civilians are being killed due to militant attacks on settlements in the province of North Kivu.
“Militants from a terrorist group called the Alliance of Democratic Forces (ADF — Allied Democratic Forces) are increasingly looting and burning local settlements,” Savchenko said.
Ukrainian peacekeepers launched an airstrike from MI-8 helicopters, which destroyed a militant base in the city of Bunia.
“During the execution of the combat mission, Ukrainian pilots fired unguided aircraft missiles and used heat traps to avoid a possible militant attack. As a result of the operation, all planned targets were successfully destroyed,” Savchenko added.
Such combat missions are familiar to pilots of the 18th separate helicopter squadron.
Recall that in 2021, the NSDC decided to increase the Ukrainian contingent in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to participate in the UN mission in order to stabilize the situation in the country.
