Vitaly Markiv, a soldier of the Ukrainian volunteer battalion, acquitted by a court in Milan in the case of the death of Italian reporter Andrea Rocchelli in Donbass in 2014, flew to Ukraine.

His press conference after his arrival in Ukraine was broadcast on Facebook by the Ukrainian Ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova.

“My first task is to continue serving in the ranks of the National Guard of Ukraine,” Markiv stressed.

On November 3, the Milan Court of Appeal acquitted Markiv, who was sentenced to 24 years in prison in the case of the death of an Italian reporter in Donbass in 2014.

In May 2014, Italian journalist Andrea Rocchelli and his translator Andrei Mironov, a Russian citizen, were killed near Slavyansk, and they were fired upon from mortars. Later, the investigation found out that the Italian reporter was shot deliberately.

In the summer of 2017, Markiv, who has Ukrainian and Italian citizenship, was detained in Bologna.
