During a visit to Kiev, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski discussed with his Ukrainian counterpart Andriy Sybiha the issue of the Ukrainian Legion, a military unit that will staffed with Ukrainian citizens living abroad.

The heads of the foreign policy departments of Ukraine and Poland spoke about the prospects for the formation of this unit at a joint press conference.

According to the Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs, preparatory measures for the formation of the Ukrainian Legion are at the finalization stage. The final implementation of this project requires certain practical steps by the Ministry of Defense.

“Since this is a sensitive issue, after the necessary preparatory activities are completed, this project will move into the practical plane,” Andrey Sybiga noted.

The head of the Polish Foreign Ministry noted that the matter of creating the Ukrainian Legion is progressing.

“Poland supports the readiness to prepare a Ukrainian unit on the territory of its country,” he assured.

At the same time, Radoslaw Sikorski refrained from disclosing specific details, citing concerns about the potential threat of sabotage and subversion on the part of Russia.

Recall that earlier, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov appealed to all Ukrainian citizens currently in Europe to volunteer and join the ranks of the Ukrainian Legion.
