16-year-old Ukrainian athlete Ksenia Bailo won the gold medal at the World Championship in diving among juniors, which is taking place in Kiev.
Bylo became the first in jumping from a 10-meter platform in age group B (14-18 years old).
The Ukrainian reached the finals with the first result, but at the end the struggle for the first place turned out to be very tense. The main rival of the Ukrainian woman in the final was the Russian Ulyana Manaenkova.
The athletes had to perform three jumps, according to the results of which the judges determined the winner. Only thanks to the last jump, Baylo was able to snatch the gold award from the Russian woman Manaenkova. The latter became the silver medalist of the championship.
In jumping from a 10-meter platform among girls, the places were distributed as follows:
• Ksenia Bailo (Ukraine) – 338.15 points;
• Ulyana Manaenkova (Russia) – 303.15 points;
• Marina Podyapolskaya (Russia) – 289.90 points.
– There was excitement in the final before the first jump. Although I felt very good, something was wrong, and what, it’s unclear, I myself still don’t understand. But I didn’t want to let go of my medal at all, I went to the end and got there, ”Ksenia Bailo shared her impressions.
Another Ukrainian woman, Anna Arnautova, was just a little short of jumping from a 1-meter springboard. The fate of the bronze medal was decided by the last jump, and Arnautova became the fourth.
At the same time, Ukrainians Bogdan Chizhovsky and Daniil Konovalov won a silver medal in synchronized jumping from a 3-meter springboard.
The first were the athletes from Germany, ahead of the Ukrainians by 0.45 points.
The World Junior Diving Championship will last in Kiev until December 9.
