Terlyuga is recognized as the best in the world, despite the fact that she could not win either the Olympics or the World Championship. In both competitions, she lost to the representative of Bulgaria Ivet Goranova, who is ranked tenth.
In the world classification, the athlete is ahead of the karateka from Brazil Valeria Kumizaki, as well as the Russian Anna Chernysheva.
For the first time, she took the lead world ranking in 2018.
Five more Ukrainians are included in the top 10 ratings published on the official website of the WKF.
Stanislav Goruna is ranked third in the ranking weighing up to 75 kg. Rizvan Talibov is in sixth place in the weight category of 84 kg. Anita Seregina, who recently won the silver in the championship, moved up to sixth place in the 61 kg category. Galina Melnik is the seventh (w/c up to 68 kg), and Ekaterina Krivaya is the ninth (w/c up to 50 kg).
Note that Terlyuga recently got married. Karate coach Volodymyr Zaretsky became the chosen one of the 29-year-old athlete.
She is the Honored Master of Sports of Ukraine in karate and three-time European champion in personal kumite (2017, 2018 and 2019). Also in the asset is a silver and two bronzes of the European Championship and a silver at the European Games.
Terlyuga was the first in the history of Ukrainian karate to win an Olympic license. And at the Tokyo Olympics, she won a silver medal, which became the first Olympic award for Ukraine in this sport.
