Joint military exercises between Russia and Belarus in September are setting the stage for increased security risks on the Ukrainian border.
This was announced by the spokesman for the State Border Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko, on air at the telethon,
According to him, this direction remains threatening regardless of whether military maneuvers are being conducted there or not.
“This direction remains threatening for Ukraine, regardless of whether exercises are held there or not. This situation will persist as long as Belarus continues to support Russia in the war against our state,” he emphasized.
He believes that the active phase of the exercises in September is particularly dangerous, during which the threat of escalation will increase significantly. Ukrainian intelligence will focus on determining the exact composition and location of Russian military formations participating in the joint maneuvers during this period.
Demchenko noted that in order to counteract these threats, it is necessary to strengthen Ukraine's defensive capabilities on the border and in border areas. He noted that this also concerns fortifications, which should create reliable protection in the event of a possible escalation of the situation from the Belarusian direction.
Let us recall that we previously wrote that Russia and Belarus reduced the scale of the Zapad-2025 exercises and moved the main phase further away from the NATO border in order to show the West that they are not seeking escalation and are trying to appear restrained.
