The Ukrainian delegation discussed issues of stabilizing the situation in Syria after years of dictatorial rule, as well as restoring security and normal life for the Syrian people.
On behalf of the leadership of Ukraine, Minister of Foreign Affairs Andriy Sybiha and Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Vitaliy Koval made an official visit to Damascus.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky spoke about the details of the meeting.
During meetings with the Syrian administration, leader Ahmed al-Sharaa and local ministers, the Ukrainian delegation discussed issues of stabilizing the situation in Syria after years of dictatorial rule, as well as restoring security and normal life for the Syrian people.
According to the president, Syria will receive the first 500 tons of Ukrainian wheat flour tomorrow. This is only the beginning of deliveries aimed at strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation in the economic and other spheres.
“We appreciate the chance to help Syria restore stability and are ready to develop long-term, strategic relations,” Zelensky emphasized.
The ministers are expected to present a report on the results of the visit after returning to Ukraine.
Recall that Ukraine and Syria established their first diplomatic relations in 1992. However, in 2022, the then Syrian authorities recognized the “independence” of the “DPR” and “LPR”, which led to the severance of diplomatic relations with Ukraine.
