The Netherlands announced its intention to transfer the Patriot to Ukraine at the end of May.
The Netherlands will not be able to transfer the Patriot air defense system to Ukraine for now due to the refusal of one of the country's allies to participate in the supplies.
NL Times reports this citing the Dutch Ministry of Defense.
The Netherlands initially announced its intention to transfer the Patriot to Ukraine in late May. The Dutch Ministry of Defense claimed that the country had the “core components” of the system, and that other countries were to supply the remaining parts.
In June, then-Minister of Defense Kajsa Ollongren announced that the Netherlands had found a country to assist in the delivery. The plan was to transfer the radar and at least three launchers to Ukraine.
However, the Dutch Ministry of Defense has now reported that “the ally has not fulfilled its previously assumed commitment” to deliver. The Defense Ministry did not specify which country it was talking about.
Current Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans added that other countries are currently still looking for other components to complete the system. Negotiations are ongoing with several partners.
Recall that the United States will transfer new air defense systems to Ukraine in the near future.
