Acting head of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine Yuriy Vitrenko said that Kiev intends to conduct an experiment to disconnect from the Russian and Belarusian power supply systems, TASS reports.
According to him, Ukraine must demonstrate the ability to exist independently without Russian electricity before starting to integrate with the energy networks of the European Union. “Already next winter we must demonstrate the possibility of autonomous work, at least for a week,” Vitrenko said.
He added that with a successful coincidence of circumstances, Kiev will conduct a similar experiment in the summer of 2022. Until then, the country will increase its own power generation capacity.
On January 25, Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba announced that Ukraine would completely “cut off” from Russian energy systems by 2023. At the same time, on February 1, Kiev, after a short break, resumed the purchase of electricity from Russia due to a lack of its own capacities.
