Ukraine wanted Germany to organize a summit in the “Norman format”

Kiev wants the German authorities to organize a Normandy format summit in the near future, Ukrainian Ambassador to Berlin Andriy Melnik said in an interview with the FUNKE media group, his words are quoted by TASS.

He noted that Kiev expects the convening of the Normandy summit from German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in the coming weeks. The diplomat stressed that at present the main task is to avoid war in Europe.

“Ukrainians expect that after Scholz’s visit to Moscow, Germany’s diplomacy will not only be dynamic, but, above all, will bring concrete results,” Melnyk added.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had a telephone conversation. The US President and the German Chancellor welcomed Russia's statements about its readiness for diplomatic efforts around Ukraine. They also stressed the importance of a dialogue on security in Europe, the need to implement the Minsk agreements and progress in the Normandy format.
