Ukraine pays for West's mistakes – Johnson

by alex

Ukraine is now paying the price for the fact that for many years the West did not understand the threat posed by Vladimir Putin during the annexation of Crimea. This statement was made in a conversation with the BBC British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

According to him, the problem was created by those European countries that, despite the annexation of Crimea, returned to Putin in 2014 and continued cooperation.

Johnson notes that after that, trade relations with Russia not only continued, but also intensified, and European countries became even more dependent on Russian gas.

The West then made a terrible mistake. The leader of the Russian Federation committed an act of violent aggression and took away a significant part of the territory of a sovereign state – and we let him stay with these achievements. We thought we could get back to normal somehow, — Johnson states.

At the same time, according to Johnson, the Russian invasion of Ukraine has already failed because Putin underestimated the strength of resistance in Ukraine.
