In China, scientists plan to develop a tool against SpaceX's Starlink satellites. The reason is that the Chinese military fears that satellite Internet can significantly enhance the capabilities of the US Air Force, and this seems to be a danger to their country.
Thus, Chinese scientists want to create a weapon that will allow disable or destroy American Starlink satellites.
This is reported by the South China Morning Post.
“The Starlink constellation is a decentralized system. This is not about fighting individual satellites, but the whole system. This requires some low-cost, high-impact measures. A combination of soft and hard destruction methods must be used so that some Starlink satellites lose their functions, and the operating system of the group was destroyed,” one of the scientists quotes the publication.
The researchers stressed that the dangers of Starlink should be assessed. First of all, for this it is necessary to modernize the existing Chinese complexes for space observation in the country and equip them with optical equipment. The option of intercepting the signal of each satellite is also proposed.
As scientist Ren Yuanzheng noted, China allegedly already has the ability to destroy satellites with missiles, but they are not very willing to use this method, because after shooting down Starlink supine rockets, a large amount of space debris appears. In particular, according to him, Chinese scientists have created lasers for blinding spacecraft, nanosatellites that can be launched to disable large devices, as well as tools for hacking satellite communications.
It should be noted that according to the information of the Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedor, as of May 28, more than 10 thousand Starlink terminals are operating in Ukraine and more than 150 thousand people are already using satellite Internet.
