Ukraine may be left without electricity

by alex

In Ukraine, the power supply to consumers may be cut off. This was reported by the press service of the National Commission for State Regulation in the Spheres of Energy and Utilities.

They explained this by the critical situation with coal reserves in the warehouses of thermal power plants. It threatens the stable operation of TPP power units and can provoke the emergence of a system-wide accident in the unified energy system of Ukraine and, as a result, the introduction of schedules for the emergency shutdown of power supply to consumers.

According to the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, coal reserves at TPPs as of February 2 are 431.9 thousand tons. This is 5.5 times less than it was at the beginning of February 2020 (2.4 million tons).

NEURC made a decision to conduct unscheduled on-site inspections of Centerenergo, Donbassenergo, DTEK Zakhidenergo, DTEK Vostokenergo and DTEK Dneproenergo.

In the course of them, the circumstances that led to this situation will be determined. If violations are revealed based on the results of inspections, sanctions will be applied to the relevant business entities within the framework of the current legislation.
