On the night of July 5, the Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out another drone attack on targets in Russia. This time, the drones hit the Borisoglebsk airfield.
It is worth noting that it is located in the Voronezh region, approximately 350 kilometers from the border with Ukraine. This was reported by 24 Kanal with reference to Defense Express and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
What is known about Ukrainian attacks on Russia
The strikes on “Borisoglebsk” were carried out by the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine together with other units of the Special Operations Forces. According to the General Staff, as a result, a warehouse with guided aerial bombs and a training and combat aircraft were hit, as well as, probably, other aircraft.
It is worth noting that the Borisoglebsk Aviation Training Center for training flight personnel, which flies the Yak-130, is located there. In addition, aircraft such as the Su-25, Su-30, Su-34 and Su-35 are based at the airfield.
The Ukrainian Defense Forces have already attacked this airbase several times in 2024. During one of the attacks, drones hit mysterious containers, which could be seen even on satellite images.
That night, drones also attacked JSC VNIIR-Progress. According to preliminary data, they managed to hit one of the production workshops there. This is not the first strike on this facility in recent times. It was previously hit in early June. At that time, the Russians officially announced that the enterprise had suspended operations.
It should be noted that JSC VNIIR-Progress is involved in the production of the Kometa-type module in the list of products, which Russia uses in the Shaheds, as well as in its new S8000 missile. In the context of the strike on yet another manufacturer of components for the Shaheds, it is worth noting that since the beginning of July, this is already at least the third strike on the production of these attack drones.
