Borrell said this when he arrived on the morning of October 6 at an informal meeting of leaders The EU is in Granada, reports “European Truth”.
Borrell commented to journalists on the need for a target date for further EU enlargement, which has recently been discussed in the European Union. The discussion began after the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, proposed 2030 as a target.
“It’s good to have a goal, it’s good to have a horizon. This is the political horizon. The purpose of a fixed date is to mobilize political energy to start moving. This does not mean that this will be an exact date. If we don't have a horizon, people will start thinking, “Okay, we have time.” But we don’t have time,” Borrell said.
He noted that the EU delayed the enlargement process for a very long time. But now, thanks to the application of Ukraine, which has become a new candidate, Borrell expects the expansion process to accelerate.

At the end of August, European Council President Charles Michel said he wanted the EU to be ready for enlargement by 2030. However, the EU has supporters not to be tied to any deadlines for the accession of new members.
The Ukrainian authorities claim that they are ready to complete their part of the work for admission as quickly as possible. Prime Minister Denis Shmigal noted that Kyiv wants to put “on the table a report that we are ready” in two years. At the same time, he stressed that after this approval, the decision on Ukraine’s accession will take time.
Recall, Josep Borrell said that the only path to peace in Ukraine is President Zelensky’s peace plan.
