Ukraine is considering two potential options for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Donbass. They imply a dialogue with Russia, or the involvement of the United States in the “Normandy format”. This was stated at a press conference by the head of the faction of the pro-presidential party “Servant of the People” David Arahamia. His words are reported by RIA Novosti.

He explained that after the work of the Quartet reached a dead end, there was a threat of a real Russian invasion of Ukraine. Therefore, Kiev decided to modify the “Normandy format” and achieve de-escalation of the conflict.

“We have two options: one format is direct negotiations with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin on this situation and the second format is to involve the United States of America in the Normandy or some other format,” Arakhamia described, adding that now the listed scenarios are in the active phase of discussion. The Ukrainian authorities plan to resolve this issue by the end of the first quarter of 2022.

On December 21, the head of the office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak said that Ukraine had transferred to partners comprehensive initiatives to unblock the peace process in Donbass. The document contains 10 specific steps.

For several months, American, European and Ukrainian media, as well as a number of high-ranking politicians, have accused Moscow of preparing a military invasion of Ukraine. Aerial photographs were presented as evidence: they show the movements of Russian troops within the borders of the country. Russia denies accusations of trying to provoke a conflict and notes that all military movements are made at its discretion and without violating international agreements.
