Sergei Tsekov, a member of the international committee of the Federation Council, compared Ukraine's zealous desire to join NATO and Sweden's refusal to join the alliance. In his opinion, the former behave this way out of inexperience, while the latter are guided by common sense. The politician told Lente.ru about this.

Tsekov explained the behavior of countries with the phrase that “some are smart and experienced, while the second are inexperienced and stupid.” The senator pointed out that Ukraine, from the first day of independence, has been trying to build statehood on the total denial of everything Russian. “The fight against Russia has become the meaning of their lives,” he added.

“They have an inferiority complex. They understand deep down that they do not deserve the statehood that they received from the hands of Russia. Therefore, they believe that it is necessary to completely move away from Russia and stick to Europe. At the same time, they are afraid that Russia will return Ukraine to its composition almost by force. We are not returning Belarus, but for some reason we want Ukraine. Based on the fight against everything Russian, they make stupid decisions about joining the European Union, NATO. This is a consequence of the actions of a completely uneducated, stupid top of Ukrainian society,” the politician said.

Sweden, on the contrary, feels whole and does not need support, he said. While maintaining neutrality, it does not allow itself to be drawn into dangerous political games between NATO and Russia, arranged by the organization, Tsekov specified.

Earlier it became known that Sweden refused membership in the North Atlantic Alliance. “Swedish security policy remains unchanged. Freedom from military alliances serves us well and contributes to stability and security in Northern Europe,” said the head of the foreign policy department during the presentation of the document in parliament,” said Foreign Minister Ann Linde.

Ukraine applied for membership back in 2018 and since June 12, 2020 has the status of “partner with enhanced opportunities”. On February 16, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said that the issue of Kiev's full membership in NATO had not yet been raised.
