In the UK, they are concerned about the growing population of gray squirrels, which have forced out their red brethren from parks and forests.
Gray squirrels are new settlers in Foggy Albion, they were introduced there from North America relatively recently, while red squirrels have lived on British trees for centuries.
The British are not motivated by any color preferences, the sentence to gray squirrels was signed exclusively by financial considerations. The fact is that rapidly multiplying gray squirrels damage green spaces by nibbling the bark of mainly young trees, thereby nullifying all the efforts and costs associated with planting new forests.
Initially, it was planned to shoot cute but voracious creatures, however, in the end, it was decided to choose a more humane method – contraception.
Environmentalists have invented a feeder that only gray squirrels can enter. The feeders will be regularly replenished with nut butter, to which oral contraceptives will be added. The gray squirrel population in the UK is expected to decline 10-fold over the next few years.
