British Foreign Secretary David Lemmy and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken have confirmed their joint support for Ukraine.
British Foreign Secretary David Lemmy has announced the allocation of at least £242 million to support Ukraine during the attacks by the Russian army, as well as the deployment of $484 million in financial support and military equipment supplies.
This was stated in a statement by the UK Foreign Office on September 11.
British Foreign Secretary David Lemmy, together with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, confirmed the joint support of the UK and the US for Ukraine during a joint visit to Kiev on September 11.
“This is the first ever joint visit by a UK Foreign Secretary and a US Secretary of State, underlining the UK and US's unwavering commitment to support Ukraine,” the UK Foreign Office noted.
Financial assistance to Ukraine: what Britain is sending
The UK Foreign Office has announced that it has allocated at least £600 million to support Ukraine in its war with Russia.
“The UK's support for Ukraine is unwavering,” Lemm said.
Current funding includes £100 million in humanitarian aid, which will support the most vulnerable Ukrainians, including those living in communities on the front lines of Russia's ongoing attacks, as well as those who have fled to neighbouring countries.
An additional £20 million will double this year's support for essential repairs and protection of the electricity grid, restore access to vital energy supplies and strengthen Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
The £40 million will be spent on stabilisation and rapid recovery, to ensure that Ukraine not only wins the war but can take the first step towards peace. This funding includes vital assistance to help Ukraine resist Russian aggression, support for the stabilisation of recently liberated territories, and funding to bring those responsible for war crimes committed in Ukraine to justice.
The Foreign Secretary will also announce the first investment in Ukraine from British International Investment, the UK’s development finance institution, as part of the G7 Investment Platform for Ukraine. This £30 million support from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Trade Facilitation Programme will help increase the flow of critical goods, including food, to Ukraine.
The Defence Secretary also confirmed that, as part of the Government's commitment to increase and accelerate military aid to Ukraine announced in April, air defence missiles, equipment for F16 fighters, AS90 self-propelled guns and spare barrels, naval boats and naval guns have already been delivered to Ukraine.
On 11 September, the British Defence Secretary also announced that hundreds of additional anti-aircraft missiles, tens of thousands of additional artillery rounds and armoured vehicles would be delivered to Ukraine by the end of the year.
Recall that earlier Head of US State Department Secretary Antony Blinken announced a joint visit to Kyiv with British Foreign Secretary David Lemmy and his intention to discuss with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer permission for Ukraine to strike Russia with long-range weapons.
