Ajax is in trouble because of birds on their jersey
A jersey that will cause a stir! Ajax Amsterdam presented a jersey with a Bob Marley look, but UEFA bans the birds logo.
It was an absolute bestseller. The fans bought the stock of the jersey in the reggae colors red, yellow and green empty in a few days. “Never before has one of our kits sold so well,” said Ajax. But now the Dutch are in trouble with UEFA.
The background: three little birds are depicted on the jersey. The song “Three Little Birds” by reggae legend Bob Marley has been Ajax's unofficial club anthem since 2008. But the birds emblem in the Rastafarian colors in the neck area on the back is a problem for the rulers.
The rules state: “Team identifications for use on playing attire can only be submitted for approval if they are entered in the relevant database of the UEFA administration and have an official status through registration with the national association of the respective team.”
Apparently this is not the case with Ajax. Therefore, the Amsterdamers are prohibited from wearing the jersey internationally. Thus, Ajax will definitely play in the Champions League at Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday without birds on the Jersey.
