U.S. Senate postpones Trump impeachment trial

by alex

The US Senate postponed the impeachment process of former US President Donald Trump until February 9. RIA Novosti reports.

At the same time, Senator Rand Paul's demand to declare the impeachment process illegal was rejected – 55 people voted for it. Another 45 senators spoke out against.

Earlier, US senators took the oath at the trial to impeach Trump. He himself has already begun negotiations with lawyers in order to develop a defense strategy for the upcoming hearings.

On January 14, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to impeach Trump in the wake of the recent riots in Washington. The last vote was the second attempt to remove the politician from office. He became the first US president to be impeached for the second time, especially after resigning. Democrats motivate the decision to impeach Trump, including by the fact that after the end of the process, he will not be able to run for president.
