The status of temporary protection will allow Ukrainians to stay in the USA for up to 18 months with the possibility of applying for a work permit in country.

The previously announced special status (Temporary Protected Status) for Ukrainian citizens physically located in the United States has been officially introduced. This protection status came into effect on Monday, April 18.

This was announced by the head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak.

The head of the Presidential Office noted that the corresponding decision was entered in the Federal Register and will be made public and registered tomorrow, April 19.

“I should note that, at the request of the Ukrainian side, the date for which Ukrainian citizens must stay in the United States to qualify for TPS was postponed from March 1 to April 11 2022. Thus, citizens of Ukraine who were physically in the United States as of April 11 will be able to use this program,” Yermak noted.

The head of the President's Office explained that the status of temporary protection will allow Ukrainians to stay in the US for up to 18 months with the possibility of applying for a work permit in the country.

“I want to thank our American partners for military, financial, humanitarian assistance, sanctions, and now for care about our citizens, as well as the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States and our entire diplomatic team for their productive work. We continue to work further to win so that as soon as possible all our people can return and build a cool Ukraine together,” Yermak wrote.
