Two soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces suffered from friendly fire during the capture of drug traffickers on the border with Egypt. This was reported by the press service of the military department in the official Twitter account.
“During the suppression of an attempt to smuggle by soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces and the Israeli border police on the border with Egypt, two soldiers of the Israeli border police were wounded as a result of an identification error, which led to shooting in both directions,” the press service said.
As a result of the operation against drug traffickers, 400 kilograms of drugs worth more than eight million shekels (more than $ 2.5 million) were seized. The press service also reported that over the past day “nine attempts were made to smuggle narcotic drugs”, during the prevention of which there were also shootouts with suspects.
Earlier, the Red Crescent organization reported about 78 Palestinians who were injured in clashes with Israeli troops near the city of Nablus in the West Bank. The clashes were caused by the actions of soldiers who blocked the road to Mount Sbeikh in the Beit area.
On January 4, two Israeli Navy pilots were killed in a crash in the Mediterranean Sea during a training flight. Local media reported that the pilots could have been saved if search and rescue and evacuation measures had begun immediately after communication with the aircraft was lost.
