Moscow. The 20th of October. INTERFAX.RU – Law enforcement officers detained on Wednesday two people in the case of the fatal poisoning of people with methyl alcohol in the Sverdlovsk region. An informed source told “Interfax” about it.
“Today, two persons were detained. A native of Georgia and Azerbaijan,” the source said.
The press services of the regional investigation department of the TFR and the FSB department refrained from commenting.
In October, 18 people died as a result of methyl alcohol poisoning in the Sverdlovsk region: 16 in Yekaterinburg, one each in Nizhny Tagil and Revda. The victims included 12 men and six women, aged 25-30 to 78 years. Methanol was found in the blood of the deceased.
According to the investigation, methyl alcohol was sold at one of the market complexes in the Chkalovsky district of Yekaterinburg.
Dmitry Chukreev, regional coordinator of the United Russia party project People's Control, told Interfax that, presumably, seven more people died from methanol poisoning in the Sverdlovsk region – four in Yekaterinburg, the rest in the Beloyarsk region.
A criminal case was initiated under part 3 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ( sale of goods and products that do not meet the requirements of the safety of life or health of consumers, which inadvertently entailed the death of two or more persons ).
