In the Northwestern and North Caucasian federal districts, two new regional scientific and educational mathematical centers have been created, according to the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia.
The Sophia Kovalevskaya North-West Center for Mathematical Research in the North-West Federal District was established on the basis of the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University and the Pskov State University. The NMC “North Caucasian Center for Mathematical Research” in the North Caucasian Federal District will appear on the basis of the North Caucasian Federal University, North Ossetian State University named after K.L. Khetagurov and the Federal Scientific Center “Vladikavkaz Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences”.
The centers will be financed by 40 million rubles a year. After their opening, the network of mathematical centers throughout Russia will be completed, which includes 11 NMCs and four international world-class mathematical centers.
The decision to create the centers was made by the Coordination Council of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia on the creation and operation of regional scientific and educational mathematical centers in accordance with the federal project “Development of large-scale scientific and scientific and technological projects in priority research areas” of the national project “Science and Universities”.
