Two former British prime ministers want a “new Nuremberg” for Putin

by alex

British Prime Minister 2007–2010 Gordon Brown and Sir John Major, who led the British government from 1990 to 1997, want a new International Tribunal to be set up to investigate Vladimir Putin's actions in Ukraine.

This is reported by the British broadcaster BBC.

Former British prime ministers are among 140 academics, lawyers and politicians who have signed a petition calling for a legal system modeled after the Nuremberg trials of Nazi war criminals after World War II.

The International Criminal Court is already investigating against Putin on suspicion of war crimes in Ukraine. But some politicians and experts argue that the capacity of this court is limited.

Thus, the International Criminal Court cannot consider a crime without a corresponding referral from the UN Security Council, which Russia can veto.

Former Labor Prime Minister Gordon Brown said that after the fall of the Berlin Wall, everyone assumed that democracy and the rule of law will prevail, but Putin “found a substitute for this by the use of force”.

According to Brown, it may happen that Russian aggression will spread to other countries. He also confirmed that he considers the Russian president a war criminal.

The Nuremberg Trials is an international trial of the former leaders of Nazi Germany. Held in the city of Nuremberg from November 20, 1945 to October 1, 1946 at the International Military Tribunal.

Then Hermann Goering, Commander-in-Chief of the German Air Force, Joachim von Ribbentrop, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nazi Germany, were in the dock , Hans Frank – the head of occupied Poland, Wilhelm Frick – Minister of the Interior of the Reich and others.
