The media learned that the antivirus developer Norton intends to buy Avast. The companies are now discussing the deal.
NortonLifeLock (formerly Symantec) is in talks with Avast. She plans to pay for the deal in cash and stock. It is noted that Avast is not sure of a positive outcome: they think they may not agree on all the parameters. However, if all goes well, the deal could be officially announced in July.
NortonLifeLock believes that users, staff and shareholders will benefit from the combination of the two companies. What benefit awaits users is not yet clear.
It is worth noting that Avast has been at the center of a scandal several times in recent years. In 2019, Mozilla accused the Avast and AVG extensions of over-collecting and leaking user data.
