The two countries do not support sanctions that limit imports of cheap Russian energy resources.
Hungary and Slovakia refused to support the 18th package of EU sanctions against Russia.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto spoke about this, Reuters reports.
Both countries blocked the sanctions package because of the European Union's plans to gradually phase out Russian energy imports, Szijjarto said.
“We did this because the EU wants to prohibit member states, in particular Hungary and Slovakia, from buying cheap Russian natural gas and oil, as we did before,” the minister explained.
Hungary and Slovakia have thus spoken out against restrictions that affect their energy needs, calling into question the unity of the European Union on sanctions against Russia.
Let us recall that we previously wrote that the Russian economy is not yet showing signs of a complete collapse. Although the civilian sector is gradually weakening, the military part of the economy continues to actively develop.
