Twitter promised Roskomnadzor to improve

Roskomnadzor reminded the social network Twitter of the need to remove posts that violate Russian law by May 15. As reported on the agency's website, the regulator discussed this issue with representatives of the social network during a video conference that took place on Wednesday, April 28.

The Twitter administration has promised that it will remove and block the remaining illegal materials as a matter of priority. Representatives of the social network also assured that they would begin to respond to the requirements of the Russian regulator more quickly.

Twitter also noted that they plan to improve and bring their activities in Russia in full compliance with the requirements of local legislation – for this they will prepare a special roadmap. In addition, Roskomnadzor and the social network agreed to organize a direct line of communication between the divisions of the regulator and the Twitter moderation service.

In early April, Roskomnadzor announced that it had changed its mind about blocking Twitter in April, as previously planned, and moved the date of the potential shutdown to May 15. The regulator noted that they will resort to this measure if the social network does not remove content that violates Russian law.

The department agreed to postpone the blocking, as Twitter began to remove materials recognized as prohibited. According to the regulator, since the start of the slowdown of the social network, the administration has removed about 1.9 thousand out of 3.1 thousand materials that violate the laws of the country.

Roskomnadzor began slowing down Twitter for Russian residents on March 10. The regulator explained the measures by the fact that prohibited content is not completely removed on the pages of the social network. Later, the department promised to block Twitter on the territory of Russia on April 16 if the requirements were not met in full.
