Twitter Launches Bitcoin Tipping Feature

The social network Twitter allowed to reward content creators with bitcoins. Since September 23, the Tip Jar function has become available to all owners of devices with the iOS operating system. Android users will be able to take advantage of the new option “in the coming weeks”. Earlier, the creator of the platform, Jack Dorsey, said that integrating bitcoin into Twitter would help the company develop faster and expand its product line.

In a test version, Twitter launched “Tipping” back in May, when the function was available only to English-speaking users. Only a limited group of “authors, journalists, experts and non-profit organizations” could accept content rewards. Money was transferred to them through traditional payment services like Square and Venmo.

Now the tip has become available to all iOS users. Moreover, you can send donations to authors in bitcoins. Twitter will not take any commission for transfers, since the social network itself does not participate in the movement of funds. Bloggers will accept donations through the Lightning Network. To do this, you need to connect some third-party payment service like CashApp to your profile.

On the news about the integration of Bitcoin on Twitter, the first cryptocurrency on the Binance exchange rose by 2.35% and reached $ 44,955.

Twitter also announced plans to add a non-fungible token verification system (NFT) to its platform. The solution assumes that users will be able to connect cryptocurrency wallets to their profiles. Now payment service Square, founded by Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, is developing such a wallet.

In July, Dorsey publicly announced his intention to integrate bitcoin into his platform for the first time. The entrepreneur called Bitcoin “the best candidate for the role of the main currency of the Internet.” In 2021, the businessman, along with rapper JayZ, launched a $ 23.6 million bitcoin fund and announced plans to bring his payment service Square to the decentralized financial services market.
