TASS, September 1. The microblogging service Twitter on Wednesday began testing Safe Mode to protect users from offensive comments.
“Safe Mode is a feature that [automatically] blacklists [a user's] accounts for seven days for the use of potentially offensive words (swearing or hate comments) and for posting multiple or unsolicited responses [to tweets] and mentions.” , – said in a blog post of the company.
The mechanism of the social network, when deciding whether to block a particular account, will take into account not only the content of suspicious tweets, but also the relationship in which a user with activated safe mode is with their authors. Therefore, accounts that the user reads or interacts with frequently will not be blacklisted.
“Blocking assumes that the authors of tweets that our technology considers offensive or objectionable, will temporarily be unable to follow your account, see your tweets or send you private messages,” explained on Twitter. If the system makes a mistake, then the automatic blocking of any user can be canceled manually at any time.
Now the operation of the new mode is being tested on a small group of users. When choosing them, priority was given to those who have English selected in the language settings in the application or on the Twitter website.
