Twitter, Facebook and WhatsApp have contested on appeal the fines in the total amount of 36 million rubles imposed earlier by the Russian court for violating the legislation on the localization of data of Russians on the territory of Russia.
“Appeals against the decision of the magistrates' court in respect of WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook were received by the Tagansky Court of Moscow,” Interfax quotes the court's message.
As specified, in the complaints, the companies are asked to cancel the fines assigned to them earlier.
Recall that on August 26, the World Court fined Twitter and Facebook 17 and 15 million rubles, respectively. Such fines were issued for a repeated violation, expressed in the refusal to localize the data of Russians on the territory of the country. WhatsApp was first brought to administrative responsibility for this offense in Russia, and the company received a fine of 4 million rubles.
As previously warned in Rospotrebnadzor, social networks are required to localize the databases of Russian users in Russia by July 1, 2021.
