Twitter boss auctions first tweet for almost $ 400,000

by alex

Hundreds of thousands of dollars have to be turned over for the very first tweet.

“Just setting up my twttr” – This is the first tweet that was ever posted. On March 21, 2006 by Twitter founder and now CEO of the company Jack Dorsey. Now the billionaire is auctioning the very first tweet.

The 15-year-old tweet can be bid on the Valuables platform. The highest bid is currently $ 363,000.

How is that supposed to work?

Basically, it's not possible to actually buy this tweet. Rather, as the highest bidder, you acquire a digital certificate that is unique and inextricably linked to the tweet. The tweet remains on Twitter.

These certificates are called NFT, Non-Fungible Token, and they have been enjoying great popularity recently. An NFT is a cryptographic token that is not exchangeable and therefore unique. It cannot be replicated or destroyed either and is stored on an Ethereum blockchain.

Like an autograph card

The NFT system is often compared to trading cards. A trading card without a signature is not worth much and can be bought by virtually anyone. With an autograph on it, however, certain trading cards can reach a high value. In the case of Jack Dorsey, it's like the Twitter founder auctioning off his first tweet and autograph.

NFT hype

Just recently, a 10-second video clip by an artist was sold via NFT for 5.5 million euros. The internet phenomenon “Nyan Cat” from 2011 was also auctioned a few days ago for 300 ethers. That was more than $ 600,000 at the time.
