Twitter users will be able to send donations to authors in bitcoins, the company said.
While this feature will be available in apps for iOS users, it will roll out to Android in the coming weeks.
The transfers will be done using the Lightning Network. Users can connect a Lightning wallet or bind a bitcoin address to send and receive transfers.
Twitter will not charge any fees for translations. To send a donate, you need to click on the special icon to the left of the “Read” button. After that, the user will be prompted to select a service through which the payment will be made. Only adults can receive and send rewards.
Prior to that, social network users could send donations in foreign currency only through third-party payment services. Among them is CashApp, which is owned by Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey.
Donations are one of the ways bloggers make money. They also receive advertising revenue. For example, on Instagram, the median price of advertising in stories for bloggers with an audience of more than 2 million people is 120 thousand rubles, for large bloggers with 1-2 million subscribers – 42.5 thousand rubles, according to the Yoloco company.
