Streaming platform Twitch has removed a popular emote (a picture used as a reaction in chats) from the face of the famous streamer Gootecks after he urged Americans to protest on social media over the death of a woman who stormed the US Capitol. This was announced on Thursday, January 7, according to Newsweek.
We are talking about the PogChamp emotion, one of the most popular in recent years. It is a screenshot of the comically surprised face of Ryan Gutierrez, aka Gootecks.
Gutierrez spoke sharply about the protests in the US capital after a security officer shot and killed one of the protesters in the US Congress building. “Will there be riots in memory of the woman who was shot today inside the Capitol, or will the martyr die in vain?” – he wrote on Twitter.
The streamer then accused the social network of censorship for failing to post on it a link to a video that captured the moment the protester was killed.
It is reported that not all Twitch users supported the decision to remove the emotion with Gutierrez's face. The administration of the service said it will work to find a replacement for the PogChamp soon.
Last June, Twitch blocked the personal account of US President Donald Trump with the phrase “for inciting hatred.”
A woman named Ashley Babbitt was shot dead during the riots at the Capitol. According to police, three more people died during the storming of the building from various injuries.
