Turnout in the 2020 U.S. general election is at a record high in 120 years. Such conclusions of the United States Election Project drew the attention of The Hill.

According to the professor of political science from the University of Florida Michael McDonald, as of the morning of November 4, 160 million people took part in the elections. This means that the turnout was 66.9 percent. It was higher in 1900 – 73.7 percent. For comparison, 55.7 percent of voters visited polling stations in 2016 during the elections.

“It's not a mistake. The 2020 presidential election recorded the highest turnout in 120 years, ”added McDonald. He added that the counting of votes is still ongoing, and therefore the data will still be specified.

General Election Day was held in the United States on November 3. Citizens elected a president and vice president, 35 senators, the entire House of Representatives, 13 governors and local government representatives.

The incumbent President Donald Trump is trying to be re-elected to the post of head of state. His main rival is former Vice President and Democrat Joe Biden. The vote count has not yet been officially completed; in many states, the difference between the candidates is tenths of a percent.

So far, Biden has 238 electoral votes, and Trump has 213. Despite the fact that the final results of the presidential election are not yet, Trump has already congratulated his voters on the victory. Biden's headquarters also expressed confidence in victory.
