Turkey warns the US of the consequences of pressure over the S-400

Attempts by the United States to put pressure on Turkey over the purchase of Russian S-400 missile systems may have undesirable consequences for Washington. This was warned by the official representative of the President of Turkey Ibrahim Kalin in an interview with Bloomberg.

Kalyn noted that Turkey is still interested in the supply of American Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems. According to him, Ankara invited Washington to discuss their concerns that the S-400 could pose a threat to American F-35 fighters, from a technical point of view. In the United States, however, they replied that the issue is not a technical, but a political one.

The representative of the Turkish leader stressed that despite the existence of disagreements, Turkey and Russia always manage to discuss them in a constructive manner, but this does not work out with the United States. “If another country comes to us with a maximalist position in the spirit of“ either in my opinion, or not at all, ”then such an attitude pushes us in the opposite direction,” Kalyn stressed.

The deliveries of the S-400, which caused a crisis in relations between Turkey and the United States, began in mid-July 2019. Washington demanded to abandon the deal and purchase American Patriot complexes in return, threatening to delay or even cancel the sale of fifth-generation F-35 fighters to Ankara.
