During his visit to Kiev, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan may “bring down from heaven to earth” his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky. Professor of Maltepe University (Istanbul) told about such plans of the Turkish leader Hassan Unal in an interview with
According to him, Erdogan will try to dispel the illusions of the Ukrainian president and explain to him the “real state of affairs.” “Firstly, Ukraine will never be accepted into NATO. Secondly, if a real conflict starts between Ukraine and Russia, then not a single NATO soldier will fight for Ukraine,” Unal said. Another possible instruction from Erdogan may concern the Crimea: according to the Turkish political scientist, Kiev should forget about the issue of the status of the peninsula and focus on the integration of Donbass.
“Such words coming from a NATO member country, whose army is the second largest after the United States in the alliance, may have some impact on Ukraine,” the expert suggested. At the same time, he did not rule out that the United States and the United Kingdom, which incite Ukraine against Russia, may sabotage Ankara’s efforts.
Earlier it was reported that Erdogan will visit Kiev on February 3, when the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Ankara and Kiev will be celebrated. The visit of the Turkish leader will take place before the meeting with Putin, who is expected to visit Turkey after the opening of the Olympic Games in Beijing on February 4.
