Turkey calls French Senate resolution on Karabakh ridiculous

by alex

The Turkish Foreign Ministry called the resolution of the French Senate with an appeal to the government of the country on the recognition of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR, the Republic of Artsakh) absurd. Anadolu agency writes about this on Twitter.

The ministry noted that the document is a manifestation of the “ridiculous and divorced from the facts” understanding of the situation.

Azerbaijan also regarded the resolution “as an ordinary piece of paper.” Aide to the President of Azerbaijan, Hikmet Hajiyev, believes that he was adopted in the name of narrow political ambitions. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan called the decision of the French Senate “historic”.

On November 25, the French Senate adopted a resolution calling for the country's government to recognize Nagorno-Karabakh. 305 French senators out of 306 participants in the meeting voted for the adoption of the document.

On November 9, Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan adopted a joint statement suggesting the cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh from November 10. According to the document, the parties to the conflict stop at their positions. Azerbaijan will gain control over the territories of Aghdam, Gazakh, Kelbajar and Lachin regions. Russian peacekeepers will arrive in the region. The units will be deployed along the line of contact and the Lachin corridor, which connects Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia.
