Continued: Turkey scolded the EU for trying to look for weapons on a ship going to Libya

Turkey refused to give Germany access to its ship, which was heading towards Libya, for verification due to suspicions of violating the arms embargo. Reported by Spiegel.

It is known that the EU mission had suspicions that the Turkish cargo ship Rosaline A could have weapons, the supply of which to Libya is prohibited by the UN embargo. It is noted that the German frigate “Hamburg” stopped him 200 kilometers from the Libyan city of Benghazi. The Turks first let the German representatives on board, but then forbade them to search the ship. After that Rosaline A set off towards the coast of Libya.

Earlier, UN experts suspected Russia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Egypt and Turkey of violating the international arms embargo in Libya. Turkish military cargo arrives in the west of Libya, including on passenger aircraft. “It is almost impossible to buy tickets for these flights, they are not for commercial passengers,” the report noted.

In July, Germany, France and Italy announced their intention to discuss imposing sanctions for violating the embargo on Libya. According to the report, the countries of the European Union will be ready to consider this option if violations of the arms embargo by air, land and sea continue.

In Libya, confrontation continues between the government of national accord Faiz Sarraj, which controls Tripoli and territories in the west of the country and is supported by Turkey, and the Libyan National Army under the command of Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, supported by Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Its unofficial allies are France and the United Arab Emirates – the latter, according to some sources, supplied the army with equipment, including equipment purchased from Russia.
