Turkey and the United States have set up a working group on the purchase of the first Russian S-400 air defense systems. The head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry Mevlut Cavusoglu said this, quoted by the Anadolu agency.
According to him, technical negotiations have already begun between Ankara and Washington. The working group will deal, among other things, with the discussion of the US anti-Turkish sanctions.
They were introduced earlier in December against Turkish officials and institutions responsible for the purchase of the S-400. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that Russian-made anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) endanger the US military. NATO also saw a threat to the aircraft of the member countries of the alliance in the Russian air defense systems.
Ankara paid off Moscow for the C-400 on December 7. The deliveries of the systems that caused the crisis in Turkey's relations with the United States began in mid-July 2019. Washington demanded to abandon the deal and purchase American Patriot complexes in return, threatening to delay or even cancel the sale of the latest F-35 Lightning II fighters to Turkey. In total, Turkey was to receive more than 100 aircraft.
